I really don't know why I am posting because I can't take them in (though I wish I could) but it just breaks my heart. I don't understand how people can do these things. Poor pups. I pray that they find loving homes with lots and lots of love lavished on them.

I've always said that dogs were smarter than people. LOL

How is Grace? She looks comfy enough. :^)

We had a nice day today. Cody did pretty good in kindergarten. And she has begun to play with the other puppies. She is getting bigger all the time.

She likes to lay in front of the heater.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Giardia AND puppy vaginits
« on: February 07, 2008, 02:24:30 pm »
Cody is 18 1/2 weeks old. I believe she had Giardia ever since I got her. We went through the first round of meds and it never really cleared up. Then her poop got real soft with no form. She was tested again and was found to have Giardia and something else that I don't know the name of. She was also vomiting this time. They put her on 4 medications and now her poop is hard for the first time since I've had her. I understand the frustration that you feel. I felt helpless, too. I'm not at home or else I'd let you know what meds she got. Oh, and it appears that she has allergies, also. Believe me, I feel you pain. All I can say is that if the vet is doing the testing only at the office then they should send a sample off to a lab. If my vet had not done that then they would not have discovered both problems. I guess what I'm trying to say in my own jumbled way is that it may be more than just Giardia. It was for Cody. BTW, Cody is a Doberman and she weighs over 40 pounds at this point.

Keep us up to date with what happens.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Re: This is why I love camping!!
« on: February 06, 2008, 03:57:48 pm »
Cute!  Any tips on taking a first timer furry?  We tent camp and want to take odin but not sure how he will handle it (ie....sleep).  Tips?  We are not buying a camper so that's not an option. ;)

I, too, would love to go camping and I also use a tent. I haven't been in 3 1/2 years since Ratdog passed away. It just wouldn't be any fun without a furry. As hyper as Cody is right now I will just have to wear her out during the day so she will sleep during the night, I guess. The only thing I really worry about is her barking. She really likes to listen to herself. :^)

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Grace is at the Vet STILL
« on: February 06, 2008, 01:33:15 pm »
I'm sorry you are going through this. But I'm glad that the surgery went well. I'm sure Grace is not mad at you. (You ever had the "pleasure" of feeling loopy before? :^) She may not even remember you coming, even if she did seem to acknowlege your presence. I had to leave Cody at the vet last night and when I picked her up today she must have greeted me for 5 minutes. That is the neat thing about puppy dogs - they are full of love. And you are soooooo good to Grace that I am sure that she adores you. Poor pooch ... she probably couldn't even stand up.

Just know that Cody and I send you best wishes. And I can't wait to hear from you when you do get her.

Take care,
Terri

Yes, I clean up myself after cleaning her up. I got her from the vet this morning and they said that the diarea is cleared up. And she is on the panacur plus 3 other meds. She still isn't her usual hyper self but that could be because she did not sleep too well at the vet last night.

Thank you all for your concern. It is always hard when our babies get sick.

I picked Cody up this morning. She is doing really good. She still is not totally spastic like usual but I can tell she feels better. She is on 4 meds. Maybe this will clear her Giardia problems this time.

I saw the owner of the daycare this morning at the vet and told her about what happened. She was already aware because she saw Cody at the vet yesterday and they told her what was going on. She and I have a good relationship and I trust her. My vet highly recommends her and he would not do that lightly.

I've just got to lighten up. Cody is doing great. She is a great puppy dog.

Thanks for all of your concern. I appreciate everyone's input.

Awww, poor Cody.  Luckily Cody has a dog Mama who knows when to get the Vet.  Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Any idea where the Giardia is coming from?

Thanks for the best wishes. Poor Cody. I took her to the vet 3 days in a row. I found a spot in her iris Wednesday. Thursday and Friday was dealing with the intestinal problems.

I really don't know where the Giardia is coming from. I'm not too sure that she got over it the first time.

Yes, I work nights. I take her out right before I go to work and right after I get home. Mom is 88 years old (this month) and not very strong. Even though Cody is learning to walk with a pinch collar she could (and would) still pull mom off of her feet. Most days I get about 3 hours of sleep. When I do sleep it is only after Cody has worn herself out playing and she sleeps in the bed with me. I stay up with Cody to make sure she gets outside to use the bathroom whenever she needs to and to play with her. I just started taking her to doggie day care last Wednesday. She had a great time but she got sick Thursday morning and I'm wondering if there is a connection between the two.

I've tried using pads and paper but she just shreds them. She can be quite hyper. Which is ok. I expected that. I guess it is just that I haven't had a puppy since I was in the 5th grade and it was a teacup poodle so I'm just having to learn as I go and I don't know what to expect or look for. And I obsess about wanting to give her everything she needs and making sure she is healthy and happy. I don't crate her during the day unless I have to leave the house for something. I try to only go to places that she can go, too. She is my little girl and I love her very much. I just want to do the right thing by her but I always worry about messing up.
