Hi Connie!

Rebekah here! I have not been on the board much lately because I am buried underneath a bunch of dog photos and art supplies, but I had to pop in to say howdy!

Wolfhound Discussions & Pictures / Re: Irish Wolfhound compatablity
« on: March 12, 2007, 05:57:45 pm »
Actually, since Irish Wolfhounds are sighthounds, they often will chase farm animals. "The Irish Wolfhound has been bred for years to chase, hunt, and bring down game. Therefore, assume that small animals may be chased or possibly hurt." -Nikki Riggsbee, author of Irish Wolfhounds.

Now, if you raise your dog to respect the farm animals, you may be fine. But you can't expect them not to chase your farm animals- it is in their nature! Some Wolfhounds can't even be kept with cats.

If you do choose to bring a Wolfhound into a farm situation it might take a considerable amount of work, training, and effort to keep everyone safe. Including the dog!

Best of luck to you, whatever you decide to do. :)

Great Pyrenees Discussions / Re: No Dew Claws!!!
« on: March 03, 2007, 12:51:48 am »
For some reason, some vets don't realize that Great Pyrenees are SUPPOSED to have double dewclaws. My vet for example removed Mokey's while she was under anesthesia for her spay. I didn't ask him to do it, he really thought he was doing me a favor. I was mortified when I found out what happened. But life goes on. I think he thought they would get caught on stuff and cause her problems or injury. :(
Maybe when your pup's litter was born the vet removed their dewclaws when they were a few days old...? A lot of breeders (of other purebred dogs) bring their pups in at a few days old and the vets remove dewclaws at this time, they don't even need stitches.

I hope you get to the bottom of it, and I think it's definitely time to call the breeder.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Re: Not a good update
« on: February 28, 2007, 07:22:13 pm »
Blair, I am SO SORRY to hear this. :'( I think know how you feel. Dog fights are SO scary, and when you are talking about big dogs like a Dane and a Rottweiler, I can't imagine there is anything you could do to protect Gauge. Except give him a safe new home.

I was wondering where you had been and how things were going. :-[ Such sad news. I am so sorry you won't be getting Slevin, this is just sad all the way around. But let's be thankful you didn't bring that new little guy into a messy situation where he could have been seriously hurt too.

Hang in there sister, take it easy, and have fun trying to get pregnant!!! :)
