« on: November 22, 2007, 04:34:08 am »
We had a new experience last weekend. I took Monty to a dog spa and we used the self wash bathing/drying suites. It was great, no lifting, no mess and no 150 lbs of wet dog in the house!!! Monty enjoyed it also. The water was the perfect temp and the dryers were not hot. Highly recommended... .anybody near Lincoln. Rhode Island Check it out ZPup is located on GW Highway.

Saint Bernard Pictures / Monty today

We took Monty out for the evening last night we took him to Plymouth for ice cream and a walk. What can I say He was a show stopper!!!!! We couldn't walk more than 6 steps without some one stopping us to talk to him, pet him and in some cases a full blown hug,we even had to stop for a photograph!!! He was just adorable, loved being with all the people and at one point I think there was 6 children clambering to pet him....he sat and just loved it. Then came the ice cream....his first! His eyes were nearly closed with ecstacy. He licked, very gently until it was gone. We are bursting with pride.

Food Discussion & Information / Rawhide eating
« on: August 04, 2007, 03:49:49 am »
On a couple of occasions I have given Monty a rawhide to chew. He spends quite a bit of time chewing and then gets them to a certain size and then swallows it. I can't think that this is good for him, do you think I should not let him have them any more

Big Dogs with Jobs / Drafting
« on: August 02, 2007, 03:28:19 am »
Does anybody take their Saints drafting/carting. I am thinking about it with Monty. I have to do a bit more research yet as I don't know much about it. We would only do it for fun but I think he would love giving all the kids rides. What do you all think.

Saint Bernard General Discussions / only good news
« on: July 31, 2007, 02:42:13 am »
I only seem to post something when I have a problem, so today I thought I would just like to say that Monty has had 2 days of being fairly good. In fact we stopped off at a friends house on the way back from a walk with him, they were having a cookout with kids running around and he just sat by my feet and then to my horror they started lighting fireworks....I tried to plan a quick getaway, but no luck the fireworks started before I could get out. HE JUST SAT THERE WATCHING THEM I was so proud of him!!!

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Misbehavin' Monty
« on: July 28, 2007, 04:26:02 am »
Monty is 9 months old and seems to have found the devil in him!!!!He is being very stubborn and seems to do things just because he knows he will get a reaction from me!!!He would keep taking the pillows off the couch and walk past me with it in his mouth waiting for me to chase him to get it back. This went on for a while and I ended up putting the pillows away....so the next day he come strolling in with the actual seat cushion off the couch in his mouth. He is constantly taking the tea towel off the hook in the kitchen, he doesn't seem to chew it but just take it and drops it. Please, is this just another phase that I wasn't expecting? He can behave so well, but at the moment he seems to spend more time in 'time out' than ever before. Am I doing some thing wrong?

Saint Bernard General Discussions / Monty's vet visit.
« on: July 04, 2007, 08:43:09 am »
Monty has done well after his trip to the vet. He doesn't seem to have noticed anything is "missing". The cone he is wearing is absolutely gross though. It catches all his drool and then soaks all his fur on his neck, he looks and feels disgusting.... and he can still get to the stitches even with it on!! He also mis-judges the size gap he needs to get through with it on. He just barges on through taking half the house with him. He keeps barking at us to take it off.

Food Discussion & Information / Puppy weight
« on: April 17, 2007, 12:38:31 pm »
Monty, 6 month old St Bernard Puppy eats about 5 cups purina large breed puppy chow a day, plus cup of cottage cheese in the evening and 4-5 milk bones throughout the day. He weighs about 82 lbs. Is he about right? He is my first large breed puppy and I want to do right by him.
