Mixed Breed Discussion / Also about doodles
« on: August 02, 2008, 02:41:07 pm »
I read a post about doodles a few days. I feel the need to say something about them.
I myself won't get a new doodle puppy from a breeder. That said, I am not against doodles in anyway. Most of them I saw were very friendly to both people and dogs, though a little excited in some cases. Their owns were also responsible people.
Any dog, be a pure breed or mixed, can bad temperament if coming from a irresponsible breeder. I've heard about or seen quite some golden, lab or other pure dog that either too excitable or dog aggressive.

I rescued Butter as a Goldendoodle, but he turned out to be more like a lab with much short fur. I am not sure if he is hyper or not, but he is the most friendly dog I have ever seen. When a visitor comes, he is very happy for the first 5 minutes or so, if not controlled, he may jump onto the visitor if they are too happy or too scared.  Otherwise, he'd just sniff and lean on the person. But after 5 minutes, he usually calms down and lies down at the feet of the visitor. An incident happened today: a client came through the back door by himself(my wife is a acupuncturist), Mr. Butter rushed down to meet the guy, and jumped onto the guy several times, he fell down by himself to avoid Butter. I am not sure if Butter was too excited or not happy about the intruder...

k9kooy, Nice summary.
Butter just switched from Canidae to Horizon Legacy before I heard about all these changes about 3 weeks ago. He is doing pretty good with it.

Great shots.
I went to a mutt show that had dock dogs.  Looked like alot of fun but yeah there were a number that balked there as well.  Can't seem to find my photos anywhere...... .... ???

You got some great action shots there.  I had looked at the Canon camera (not sure if its the same one) but opted for the larger viewscreen of the Sony.

The Canon 300D I am using is a SLR(Single Lens Reflex) which has interchangeabl e lens. Usually with this kind of camera you have to look  through the viewfinder to take the shots. It's a pretty old camera(2005), and have very small LCD, but even the latest model that has a big LCD, you have to look through the tiny viewfinder most of the time. Some of the advanages of SLR are interchangeabl e lens and very fast shutter time, very good for action shots.

Last Sunday we 4 of us went to Port Perry for this event. It was a rainy day, not a lot of people showed up, but we had a good time there.

The first thing we saw was the Dock Diving held by Ontario DockDogs. Most of the dogs were quite eager to jump into the water, but some dogs were reluctant to get wet.

I went to a dog event last week. I would like to share some photos that may show faces of other people. Is it OK to post?

Thanks

This is really a nice thread. A lot of my questions asked and answered.

P.S. I haven't been posting for a while, but I am silently reading and learning.

I come across the dogwise.com the other day. There are quite some good books about dog training and other nice topics. Have anyone bought books from it? Is it reputable?

Thanks
