FAQs about puppies / Re: Question About Remy's 'Manhood'
« on: October 29, 2007, 01:34:19 am »
My friend has a male dog, but he is always refering to my dog as the big red rocket or he makes up names for it like he said they should make a crayon called dog d**k red. He always is talking about it whenever he comes over its quite embarassing because my dog sits half on the couch and half on and it pops out. I call it his lipstick and tell him to put it away and normally he moves and goes right back in. :-[

Sounds like he is just showing dominance over other dogs. My Jack Russell female humps my female Saint Bernard whenever she gets the chance of course the Saint is always sleeping when she does this.

My boyfriend decided to suprise me today to show me what I was getting as a christmas gift and took me out to a breeders house and Im getting another Saint Bernard! We looked at all of them but came up with one special puppy that I picked out he will be coming home right before Christmas and I decided to name him River because of the marking on his back looks like a riverbed with a river running through it tell me what you all think. They are not the best pics but you can see what he looks like. Ill post new pics soon as soon as I go back out there and see him..

Cujo is very slender to. Had his hips checked by the vet everything came back clear. Hes 130 at a year and 3 months I dont think h*ll grow much larger. Is that to thin for a saint?

Yeah my dog is still having a hard time getting rid of it. lol I just started letting him lay in my bed now all the time because I dont want him near the kitchen I tried to put a bed down for him and he will not lay on it. Its either my pillows on the couch or my bed or he will lay on the kitchen floor. I would gate my kitchen but my entrance to my kitchen spans all the way across my living room I talk him out of laying out there, but the thing still will not go away.

yes that picture is exactly what he has on his elbow. I try to get him to sleep on the couch most of the time, but he has a tendency to lay in the kitchen on the tile on the floor. Ill try laying a floormat down in front of the door in the house where he loves to lay maybe the swelling may go down some.

Saint Bernard General Discussions / Does anyones Large Breed have this?
« on: October 04, 2007, 04:39:03 am »
Cujo went to the vet last week he turned a year old at the end of July he weighs 130pds and is 36 inches tall. We thought he was on the thin side and the vet said no he was actually very healthy and he should get a little taller and probably will gain another 10pds.We took him to the vet because he had what appeared to be a water filled tumor looking thing on his elbow ended up finding out this is another form of calius* not sure how thats spelled. He said unless it causes him pain he wont lance it or drain it due to being on his elbow which most of the time will not heal. Does anyone else that has large breed dogs have this?Im very greatful it was not anything serious because I love this dog so much Im just wondering how common this is?

Saint Bernard General Discussions / Cujo and aggression?
« on: February 23, 2007, 12:29:43 am »

Cujo is 7 months now soon to be 8 months and so far he has not really shown much aggression. He has been through training classes and socialized at dog play dates and has met tons of other dogs at petsmart and petco and carshows for adoptathons. Lately I have noticed his aggression towards men and my small Jack Russell and tonight one of my family friends who is at my house almost everyday. The men aggression I could understand is more likely because there are no men normally ever around him just women my mom, myself and my friends who are usually girls sometimes guys, but there kind of scared of a 90 something pound puppy jumping up on there shoulders and nipping at there face. Which I dont understand he has never done this before just recently. He does not listen to anyone anymore at all besides me he acts like he cannot hear them, but when I tell him to do something he listens well. He will drag my mom if she tries to walk him, but not me.
Our Jack Russell loves to play and they get along just fine most of the time, but she always wants to play and barks at me and he rushes over and shoves himself between her and I and if she gets to close he'll grab her legs and bite her. With my closest friend who is always over I yelled at her for getting the dogs riled up tonight in the house and he grabbed her by the back of her pony tail and bit her head!Thank goddness he didnt make her bleed or hurt her, but it was enough to scare her and scare me too.
I dont think this is appropriate behavior for such a large dog, but this is the second male dog I have had ever in my life and the other dog also became possesive over me and went after everyone I knew. Is there something I could be doing wrong to provoke this behavior? I love this dog as much as I loved the other dog who also had aggressive issues. He does not get rewarded for his bad behavior and I do scold him and tell him to lay down or go in his crate when he is bad, but Im starting to think that he may need a little more then a yell and a crate time out because that does not seem to be working anymore. My other dogs which are both female do not act this way at all and listen quite well. If anyone can possibly help me I would appreciate it..
