Anything Non-Dog Related / So happy today
« on: December 14, 2008, 05:38:48 am »
Just wanted to share our joy. In August this girl arrived to our house – starved, all bones and ribs,

And with nasty inflamed open saddle rub

It was a long way, and today she dressed saddle for the first time again – look at her!

She is our first large rescue victory, and I’m sooo happy about her! She looks like she is looking for next showjumping season already! So easy to ride, so proud and happy to carry DH arround – like feather!

But, in other hand, yesterday arrived 2 more rescues, mares, and one is already pregnant. And just this afternoon – mute swan lady with broken leg. But anyway – it is worth to try.

Anything Non-Dog Related / Our cygnet story
« on: October 29, 2008, 05:43:04 am »
I do not know, is it right place to post this here, but if somebody is interested, there is the first part of our cygnet story on our State television.

This is the nature program, and the 2nd episode, about our swans is from time 8:25. First two minutes is about the place where cygnets were found and kept at the beginning, and then their yourney to us. At the end, time 13 sometning you can see Peter riding Shella for few seconds and at the end when cygnets are put in the new pen in our garden, there is Grace, our rescue St. Bernard, looking at cygnets. So if you would like like to watch, it is here

http://www.boms.lv/Video.aspx?VID=9628
Scroll the recording from left to right to time 8:25, and there is our episode.
At least then you will know that we are real
(next 2 weeks will be furher episodes of the cygnet story, and how they were released in wildlife in September)

So, 6 cygnets arrived :) The same size, different breed - they are Cygnus cygnus, and sooo different song - they are like orchestra together now ... Just beautiful... Eddy was making more nervous noises, this lot ... So paceful, like a lullaby.

Too busy tonight to make pictures, but I promise a lot tomorrow. They are beautiful!

Anything Non-Dog Related / My vet needs your help
« on: July 06, 2008, 03:03:54 pm »
Yesterday a racoon baby was taken to our vet. She was probably attacked by dog or something - she has few serious and not fresh wounds. In some wounds vet already found maggots.

If raccon will survive, she will come to my house as a foster or forever pet, but we need your help as here are no wildlife rescue centres, and it is Sunday, and none of rescues that I had found on Internet, are answering phones.

Maybe you can call to your local rescue centres and get info which antybiotics racoons with injuries would respond better.

So - it is raccon girl, approx 3 mo old, has been bitten probably by dogs, is exhausted, inflamed and has maggots in her wounds.
As her wounds seemed minor at the beginning, she got rabbies vaccine, and it probably put her in even worse position, but she is brave baby and tries really hard to survive - she is not trying to bite, is holdable, allowed to clean all her wounds and takes even IV with pride. She is rejecting food, but still drinks by herself.

I will be really thankful for all info, advices and suggestions.

Anything Non-Dog Related / New foster - a swan :)
« on: June 12, 2008, 04:30:38 pm »
Who knows anything about feeding goslings? Tonight I got a new foster

Probably a swan or geese baby. He was taken after 5 hours waiting for parents or siblings to appear. I'm feeding him with soaked white bread, chopped soft grass and egg yolk. If you know something else that i can add to his ration, and also - how much and how often to feed, I will be really thankful.

Saint Bernard Pictures / Dandelion time

Dandelion time... beautiful....

yeah, especially yellow legs :D

She has grown a bit to be very sweet lapdog :D

And looks ok now

But she still is very small and probably will not grow anymore

The only thing to complain about her - she is still so much puppy, and if you heard about slow and noble walking saints, it is not Grace - she still jumps over chears, over our garden bech which is 4 ft high and outside she tries to overrun all 3 GSD... like she is a cockerspaniel, not a saint.

Anything Non-Dog Related / Misterious cat accident (more pic added)
« on: February 27, 2008, 03:06:36 am »
Today I went down to cellar, and my white cat followed me (which is quite unusual as he is not walking outside much)
Picked a jam jar, and spotted that our other cat, Minnie is already sitting in cellar. Then looked again - it is not our Minnie, it is stranger cat.
Asked him what he is doing here and he answered with loud purring. Well, picked jar and cat, and got him inside the house.
Dogs greeted him very happy like he is already their best friend, and cat acted the same way - with loud happy purr.

I put the cat down on the floor - dogs were licking like mad to clean the cat (he was wet and covered in mud), cat was happy purring. Then he jumped on cat shelf (were we are feeding cats, asked fior some food) and then went to husbands lap, and asked for more cuddles.
Nobody has cat like him in 3 km radius, so he has arrived from somewhere far away...

Listen me!

Can I ask a question? Let me whisper!

Can I stay here?

He said yes!

You can see in left down corner Barry's nose - cat is not bothered at all.

I put him on our local lost/search page, but I do not have a big hope, that somebody will claim him. He is not lost just today, and we are living in very rural area.

Well, here you can see what I mean with "dogs love him and he loves dogs".

Here Barry is garding cat's bowl and pushing cat to eat.

Would you ever believe that this cat has just entered our house few hours ago?

Saint Bernard Pictures / Happy birthday Grace!
« on: February 16, 2008, 08:39:53 am »
Our rescue Grace is celebrating her first birthday! We got her in miserable condition 3,5 months ago, but now she is just a very happy lap dog  :)

She is still a small girl

And this is the most common way how Grace spends her time outside
