Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Training???Help needed..

ok here is the thing, i taught sophie how to sit and lay down in 10 min. she is very smart but she is really hyper. im wondering how i can teacher her NOT to paw. as we all know they have some power behind that paw that just wants to play but its getting really annoying. i need her to not jump on me when i lay down either because i am soon going to get surgery and i need her to learn that when im laying down its not play time. she is almost 6 months old but is all puppy. when i say or do anything she always thinks im playing with her. i raise my voice and it doesnt do anything to stop her. what can i do to make her listen and learn that im not a huge play toy? also a friend told me to pop her on the butt , i did and she thought it was play time. granted i play with her rougher than i popped her on the butt..another lady said to use the carboard in the paper towels to use on their nose...someone else said to ignore her when she gets like that. i did do the ignore thing and she just jumped on my back when i went to walk away. any help with be much appreciated..t hanks all!

my Sophie is getting fixed. im wondering what i can do to make her feel comfy during this time? any special food or toys or ????? i just want her to be as comfortable as she can be. thanks all..

Ok, i have a brindle dane pup and im wondering more about breeding. i dont know if its a good idea or not. im more so on the not since im afraid that a pup or 2 might end up in a bad home or the people may not be able to care for them when they get to a certain point in their life. everyone please tell me what you think on this...she is AKC and i am getting her hips x-rayed to make sure she is healthy and all the other tests. im wondering now cause she is almost 6 months old and if i decide to get he fixed i want to do it soon. BTW i have never breed a dog before, only rats so i think that is a big difference..LO L thanks ahead of time for all your info..

Great Dane Discussions / my new pup is spoiled do i ?

crate train her without going insane? she had this loud and horse bark and kinda sounds like a she whines if i put her outside to potty even though im sitting on the other side of the screen door watching her. she wont sleep by herself and i have tried to put her in the room with my boys and she started in with her "Puppy Fit" as i call it. she is always wanting to be by my side but i do need to sleep in my own bed again. we got her on saturday and today is tuesday, i have only slept in my bed once and thats only because a friend stayed over and slept on my sofa.

no matter where i go she is right next to me and i do love that and think its sweet but at night i would like for her to not throw a fit because she cant sleep with me. how can i get her to sleep with one of my kids or in a crate without her getting so mad? i never really had to deal with this before because my dogs have always got used to sleeping in a crate at night. she flips out and  yelps/screams. when i had her in the back to go potty she got the screen door and started chewing on it. when she stopped fussin i brought her inside but i wont bring her in when she is throwin a puppy fit. what can i do to make this easy for everyone? thanks everyone cause im sure someone will give me some great info!

Great Dane Discussions / Name my Pup!
« on: April 25, 2005, 07:20:17 pm »
Ok all we are not sure how to spell the name of our Brindle Dane Pup. here is the name we are thinking of.
1. Sofe
2. Sofy
4. Sofey
5. Sophy

as you can see we are not sure and actually are thinking about changing her name all together since the kids call her SOFA! lol we decided to name her Sofe(?) because all she wants to do is sleep on the sofa and she is one lazy pup. if anyone has any good idea's for a Brindle Great Dane Pup let me know. we already have her a middle name but still are ify on the 1st name. im sure someone will post a good name or a good way to spell her name. im so not good with names for animals..LOL thanks all!
