Anything Non-Dog Related / HE'S GONE!!!!!
« on: February 06, 2006, 11:37:17 am »
Thank God and everyone else!!!
My son moved out with his dogs and crazy girlfriend. I hope some of you remember me. My son's house burnt down in October and he moved back in with me with his 3 dogs 1 cat and 2 big fish(100 gallon tank)
He bought a house down the road from me, so he is close.
My daughter moved in with her boyfriend (she's 26)
And my youngest is off at school.
I AM SAVED FROM A NERVOUS BREAK DOWN.
I love my kids but I truely love the empty nest, ok not so empty, still have 4 dogs but that is better than 7 anyday.
When my daughter fences in her back yard she will be picking up her 2 pitts and I will be down to just 2 great danes!!! I have to get another rescue, I am such a sucker for a dog in need. But right now I am full of dogs so I must wait.
I don't post much -- but I read the posts everynight. and since I am back to work I never get to chat. But I just love you guys, Ang, you are tooo funny!!!
Thanks for the support over the few months of dog maddness. you are all great!
Thanks again
Terri

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Just in case
« on: January 10, 2006, 01:15:14 pm »
I don't know if this has been posted before, so I wanted to post it incase someone did not know what to do.
My son's dog ate 10lbs of chocolate one easter and we called the vet. He said to take the dog outside and pour a whole bottle of hydrogen peroxide down his throut. It made him throw up all the chocolate and then some. He was a mess but lived to tell about it.
I just read on another board of a dog eating chocolate and was not a member so could not post. (great dane room)
Sounds and is gross, but it does work.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / I am sooo stupid
« on: January 06, 2006, 11:27:44 am »
Last night was very stressful here,  (family problems) so when my dogs started barking, I thought they were picking up on it.  After telling them to "shut up" and "shhhh" got out the squirt bottle and they settled down.  A few minutes later my boyfriend went out to go the store and said " the police are across the street" Some one broke into the little gas station again!! OK, I have to also admitt that this has happened before when I told them to shut up, yep the station was broke into. Duh, when will I learn???

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / 2 Kids gone, 7 dogs left!!!
« on: January 03, 2006, 01:36:30 pm »
Oh my, My daughter moved out and will not take her 2 pits until she has a fenced in yard. She moved in with a boyfriend and wants to make sure it will last before she puts the money into a good fence. (she's 26)
My youngest son went back to school, Yeah!! but did not own a dog. I told him he could pick one out to take but he declined. darn.
My oldest son is still looking for a house, his 3 dogs have taken over my house.  But the good news is that his little pit quit hurting the other dogs, He has to wear a muzzel and hates to be seperated from the pack. Oh yeah, and his cat got out and got hurt some how. Poor thing broke a tooth and scratched up face. I would never have an indoor-outdoor cat, but he does.
I am soo ready to go back to work, this house is crazy!! the house work alone is a full time job. Can't keep the floors clean, I gave up on the furniture and will just buy more after he moves out. But I am feeling much better now so I guess there is no excuse not to clean. Just had to jump on and say HI to everyone.  And ask for prayers that he finds a house SOON

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / up date on 7 dogs
« on: December 30, 2005, 02:13:46 pm »
I just wanted to thank everyone who helped me with my problem ( the pit bitting the other dogs) I am so happy that we did not have his teeth pulled. I have to admit- I have been on pain killers for 4 weeks now and I was not thinking clearly.
We have kept the dogs in different rooms and watch them close when they are together. No more problems thank God. We are working with the little pit and he is getting better.
I had surgery on Dec 2 and I hate to say it did not go well. I had to have my gall bladder removed so I thought it would be a good time to have a breast reduction, Wrong!! The gall bladder was fine, Now I have an infection and the incision opened up 1/2 inch under my right breast. My Doctor is out of town until the 5th but his office did call in antibiotics for me. sorry this is rambling.
Anyways the dogs are much better and no more fights. The good news also is my son put a bid on a house and is waiting to see if it goes throught. Please pray for us that he is moving out soon.
Thanks to all of you for your wise words
Happy New Year to all.

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / back on and needing help
« on: December 20, 2005, 12:14:48 pm »
I hope some of you remember me, I have not been on in a month or so. My son moved in with his 3 dogs and I have 2 danes and my daughter who lives with me has 2 pits.
Anyways the problem is my son's pit is bitting the other dogs, he is 1yrs old and a rescue. We got him from a vet who was supposed to put him down because he was too far gone. Found frozen to a dumptster, had rickets, worms and was in real poor health. The vet fell in love with him and saved his life.
Everything was fine for about 4 weeks, now he wants to be alpha over the other dogs. He has hurt 2 pretty bad by tearing their ears. My son wants to have his canine teeth pulled to stop the tearing, and can teach him more when he moves out. With seven dogs here it is too hard to train anyone of them. I was afraid we would have to put him down. Do you think this will work?
