General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / help! dog keeps vomiting
« on: April 27, 2012, 08:13:55 pm »
please help! (i am an old member from about 4 years ago!)... i have a 2 year old silver lab who weighs about 120, but according to the vet, is not overweight, he definately fits his build...he is HUGE. he is as tall as an english mastiff. anyway, he has been vomiting off and on for about 12 hours. 3 times in 12 hours. it first started out with him vomiting up his food. (no change in food, nothing he got into, no change in environment) now it's that nasty mustard color. since he is a big dog, i worry that his stomach is turning. it's almost midnight on friday night... he is however allergic to corn so i wonder if maybe he could have season allergies as well since if you have an allergy, they can be prone to other allergies. any ideas???

Mixed Breed Pictures / peyton is a big girl now
« on: June 23, 2008, 12:58:53 pm »
well on wednesday of last week, peyton had her year old shots. she weighed in at 84.5 poinds. the vet said that she will still fill out in her chest but for the most part, she is done growing. she might pack on about 10 more pounds, but if she exceeds 95 lbs. she needs to go on a diet. but he said that she is healthy and a very happy "pup".

and the best part of all...no happy piddle for mom to clean up!!! :)

Groans, Gripes, Brags & Boasts / peyton's new trick
« on: May 30, 2008, 10:08:50 am »
for a while now (about a month) we have been teaching peyton to roll over. i know, huge right?!  ::) but we started with just the hips leaning to one side and we praise her and love her and give her treats. then a couple of days later, she would have to move a tad bit more with her hips and belly. same thing. love and treats (but mostly loves) and then she actually started laying on her side and so same thing. love and treats. well 2 days ago we were playing outside and daddy was fixing the hose contraption and i used my hand gesture without knowing it (i talk with my hands) and she rolled over! completely!!! daddy missed it so i did it again...and nope! she wouldn't do it! so about 10 mins later we tried again and she did it! and we tried again...did it again...then daddy tried...nope! and i came to this conclusion...s he can only do it on one side! how cute is that! she tries on the other side, but her back legs just flail around like she is a spazz. but when she is only her other side....she can do it! so anyway...that is her new trick!

yey for peyton!!!

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / my cow
« on: May 30, 2008, 10:01:20 am »
for a while now, we have been noticing that peyton no longer moans when she stretches or when she is waking up or falling asleep as most dogs moan. no, she mooos. seriously. i got it on my camera phone but i don't know how to get to online. but regardless, she mooos. it's a very distint moo too! she truely sounds like a cow. i call her "bessy" now.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / can tea hurt peyton?
« on: May 15, 2008, 06:44:41 pm »
peyton just got into the trash and before i could stop her she took out an already steeped tea bag. it was a caffinated tea. the bag ripped open when i took it out of her mouth and since it's tea, it crumbled everywhere all over her tongue! will she be okay?

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / is it normal...
« on: May 04, 2008, 03:54:40 pm »
for peyton to not be eating as much as she normally does? her personality and tempriment (sp) is still the same. happy go lucky. but when she eats it a third of what she used to eat and she runs around between bites. and just leaves the rest of it all day. she doesn't pick on it through out the day. it that normal? or i guess do other mom's have that happen too?

recently darrin and i were told of an "oopps" litter with a pure english bulldog bitch and a mystery papa. they had the mama in a "secure" place so that boys couldn't get to her and low and behold, she ended up with some pups! the vet has no idea. at 13 weeks they weighed in 30 lbs. darrin's sister's friend's friend had the litter and was trying to get rid of them. when i hear "rid" i am hearing "free to good home" right? or at worst, pay for vet fees which is TOTALLY understandable . so for 4 weeks now we have been waiting and wondering how much they were gonna be. 3 days ago i find out. one thousand dollars, yes $1,000. crazy right? then it was said that if they don't find them "good" homes, they are gonna take them to the shelter! and not even a no kill shelter, just a shelter. i am all, uh, i can give you what YOU paid for their shots and maybe even a hundred more, but i can't come up with a thousand dollars to keep them out of the shelter. that is unfair right?

Medical Conditions & Diseases / i think i am way too emotional
« on: March 29, 2008, 08:11:09 pm »
or i am just crazy! i have been very upset about peyton becoming a "woman". and she is too. all she does is whine and cry. we keep her in the kitchen with a little fence/gate and so she can still play and if she makes a mess (which she does) we can just mop it up. but she sometimes just lays down and puts her huge head down and just cries. so could it be, that she has cramps? do dogs get them? is there anything us humans can give them? do they make a doggie midol? is midol safe for dogs? i know that when i am "in heat"  ;D i don't feel good and i cry too! am i am way emotional about this? or is she really in pain?

Medical Conditions & Diseases / the big girl
« on: March 23, 2008, 10:58:09 pm »
well, peyton is now a lady and not just a puppy. she had her first spot today. we do want to get her fixed. but how long does her heat last. all the things i have read all say 4-27 days. pretty vague. she is 75 lbs. her first heat, good shape and only a year old. one week maybe? other owners have said since it's her first, it will be shorter.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / i think peyton might have "the curse"
« on: February 26, 2008, 02:25:51 am »
do female dogs have "heat" symptoms like how female humans do? i ask because in the last 3 days, peyton has become very very whinny. she now enjoys laying next to me on the couch, when before she would naw at me and want me to play. yesterday she decided she would stay in her kennel (with her new blankie) instead of come out and play with me and all she did was whine when she didn't come out. i took the blankie out and then she wanted to play with it, but then about 10 mins later took my hand (in her teeth) and lead me to the couch and pushed me down to sit and jumped on me and went to sleep. i know when i am PMSing i get whinny and want to sleep alot! she is about that age right?!

or is this a sign that is not related and she is telling me she is "old" now and doesn't want to play anymore.  ;D

darrin really wants an english bulldog and i want to possibly surprise him with one for christmas. by then we will have a fence and he will be making more money!!! yey! (to pay for vets and all) and i want to search breeders but don't even know where to begin. lots of them seem to be scams online. help! thanks!

oh, and do you think they (bulldog and peyton) will be a good match from what you already know of peyton i mean.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Peyton turned 1 today!
« on: February 24, 2008, 11:01:54 am »
Today was peyton's first birthday. She was spoiled all day. She got "special" treats and a new blankie for her kennel. She was wiggleing all around when she got it. She was very excited. I kept telling her Happy Birthday! and she would do a wiggle dance. I wanted people to come over and have a mini party for her, but we already had plans for a human birthday party tonight. Maybe next year though. :) Thank god we were able to keep her alive 8 and a half months already!  ;D
