Anything Non-Dog Related / question about peyton...
« on: January 16, 2008, 03:19:29 pm »
peyton has (for some time now) been digging the ground where we sit and play with her. we play with her and when she is done and tired, she will come up to me or darrin and dig hard at the ground (but VERY close to our uh crotch) and then lay down and stick her head under our butts. last night i noticed her doing it in her kennel with her blankie. she does the same thing but she sticks her nose under her blankie. my question is "WHY?" i heard of "chasing snakes" but digging??? just curious.

peyton is 10 months old as of Christmas Eve. She still has not started to show signs (spotting) that she is of the age to go into heat. my vet has told me a broad timeline for it. and well, she went past it. can it be that she is "barren". is there such a thing? as weird as it sounds...i look at everything on her!!! her nipples are growing. as in the little nubs. hehe. i can be so graphic sometimes. not growing like she is gonna start milking soon. she is a rottie and a french mastiff. she is about 75 lbs. she has been about 75 for the last month or so.

i miss getting on here...and one dog in particular is missing on here too! lucian??? where are you?

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / peyton is now 7 months old
« on: September 23, 2007, 02:56:35 pm »
it has been a long while since i had posted on here. lets see... today is her 7 months birthday. she got her heart worm meds as a month b-day and a kong full of peanut butter.  ;D i have been having problems truely bonding with her until yesterday. wow. i am still happy go lucky about it.

she was kinda upset about something. like mope-ing around the house not really wanting to play or anything and she came and sat on my feet and looked up at me. i asked her what the problem was and i bent down and she kissed my chin while she was still sitting. she usually would have jumped up and began to play but she was still calm. after she kissed me i hugged her and she started licking my arms with more force and i told her "i love you" and then she was all happy and wanted to play. then about 45 mins later i went to go potty in the human bathroom (hehe) and of course she had to follow me. (she likes watching the toilet flush!-weirdo!) and so i was done peeing and she sat up and put her paws on my knees and just looked at me. very lovingly and her head went sideways kinda like she was trying to figure me out. i said what peyt? and she kissed my chin again. i just looked her eyes and she kept looking in mine. i told her i love you again and i promise to god himself she smiled. she stood up and she put her chin on my shoulder as if she were trying to hug me. i put my arms around her and she started kissing my whole face, my hair, my ears, my neck and she looked at me again and kissed my chin and ran out of the bathroom.   :D i flushed the toilet and she came running. she sat there looking at the toilet and looked at me and barked! i forgot to let her watch. (i know more graphic than you probably needed to read) but so i had to flush again so she could watch. of course then she was content and then we could go play. but...

anyway...who knew that a bathroom could be the place for us to FINALLY have that moment where i knew i would do anything for her and viseversa. i can now say i truly deeply, compationately love her. she is my little girl.

later that night she did the whole thing she did before the bathroom bonding with darrin. she sat on his feet and made him hug her and tell her that he loved her and then wanted to play. :)

Medical Conditions & Diseases / does peyton have bloat? or just gas?
« on: July 09, 2007, 05:08:55 am »
i came home today and saw that peyton had pooped in her kennel. i was gone a lot longer than expected. so i let her out and let her do her business. it was a tad bit runny, but not diarreah (sp). i let her back in and i let her drink some water. she drank it up (a WHOLE bowl) and then she was walking around me and just puked everywhere. projectile. it was poop. i was assuming she ate it in the kennel since she don't like messes. she kept drinking water. and now her tummy looks very full. i looked up the symptoms of bloat and from what i can tell, she does not have it. i messured her tummy. 23.5 inches. i am gonna check in about 10 mins again. she is acting lathargic with me but i had the neighbor come over and she perked right up. she was her complete normal self. it's hard but not solid hard. i can still squeeze her tummy a little and it gives.

we had to wait to take new pics of peyton. she had some problems with the new food. she couldn't hold it in! so, she lost a lot of weight. i didn't dare take pics of that so we had to wait for her to plump back up...and so here are new pics! she has gotten even fatter in the last couple of days since these were taken!

*still having problems with eagle pack. gives loosey goosey's but a great shinny coat and eyes...any new suggestions?

peyton went to the vet yesterday to get her rabies shot. she weighed in at 29.2 lbs. She is a lean one. But the vet says she looks very healthy only to be that weight. So we are not too worried. But anyway, she did good there. She now LOVES riding in my car. I still have yet to get a pic of her sitting backwards looking out the back window.

Food Discussion & Information / Peytons new food!
« on: June 11, 2007, 10:07:51 pm »
Well most of you know now, that Peyton got new food on Friday. She loves it! She eats it slower now and...she is not growling anymore when she eats. She would growl even if we were not near her and in the other room! But now her tail is a waggin when she eats and we pet her and scratch her ears and she even leaves a couple of nuggets for later (I mean a couple...like 4 or 5). Her poops are more "healthy" looking as well. They are more stinky unfortunately but to me that means that she is getting more nutrients in her. YUK! I mean...GREAT!

While I got new food, I also got her a new harness. Her pink one was rubbing her raw under her "armpits" and so a bigger one wouldn't rub her like that. I got her a "small" one and it fit her rib cage area but was too big for her neck. I was gonna return it the next day but forgot and I left it on her over night and she was fine with it. Didn't chew it at all. We went for a walk after I got home from work and all was fine. But when I took her back out (about 2 hours later) for another walk...it snapped and she was running down the street to go see her "friends". Thankfully she realized I wasn't with her and she looked back and stopped and sat down and was crying until I was about 2 feet from her and she did the same thing, ran, looked, stopped, cried, ran, looked, stopped, cried...so at least she understands that it is a good thing that I am near her always!

So yesterday after our very SHORT walk, I ran to the store and just a collar until she has grown about an inch more around the neck (thats how much bigger it was for her!...just an inch!~)

Oh oh oh, we are teaching her "roll". I wanted to teach her things that would possibly save herself from something. But Darrin wanted to see if she could do it...

So he was working with her. She only rolls on her back, she can't get back onto the other side yet...but she does it! Only when she is gonna get fed though. She sits, lays down and then shows us her tummy (WITHOUT COMMAND!) when she is gonna get fed. She is a character!!! Oh I wish I could get a pic of her doing it!

Food Discussion & Information / new food for pey-t-pie!
« on: June 06, 2007, 07:06:18 am »
I went into Pet Supplies "Plus" today and talked to them about Peyton's food. I told them that I was suggested to try Innova Evo and so they showed me that. They asked if Peyton has a time with rich foods or even treats. I said yes. We have to watch the types and how much treats we give her or she will get the squirts. He told us to maybe stay away from Innova for awhile since it seems to be alot richer than what Iams has been for her.

He told me about Eagle Pack which is an Indiana Company and here is the web site www.eaglepack. com

It is Holistic and only uses "the best" so I am told. Here is a list of the Ingredients: Lamb meal, Ground Brown Rice, Chicken Meal, Dried Beet Pupl, Oatmeal, Chicken Fat, Anchovy & Sardine Meals, Flaxseed,  Dried Egg Product, Menhaden Fish Oil, Carrots, Sun-curred Alfalfa, Peas, Salt, Potassium Chloride, Quinoa (Organic), Blueberries, Apples,  Inulin, L-Carnitine and then it lists more vitamins and minerals...

but of the topics before it mainly is the first items the are listed before you get to a fat right? The thing that threw me off was the brown rice, but I was reading from one post that said that brown rice is better than white rice! But you all were right about the servings vs. cost! I would still only be spending about $20 a month on food! That ain't bad! The suggested serving for 20-25 lbs pup at 12-16 weeks is about 3.5 cups. So I am basically dividing that by a third now!

Anyway, they gave me a sample of it (about 3 cups) for free! and so I am gonna let her try it when she is starting to get low on her food she has now. They said that it will probably be a better transfer than another type since it is better products than Iams is now.

Check it out, let me know what you think!

here are SOME pics of the little fatty.

So we up-ed our serving to the 2.25-ish cups each meal (2 x a day) and she has put on about 5 lbs. already! her tummy is so big now! you can still see the ribs but that seems to be "normal". she is just a chunk-a-butt now! it's so cute to watch her wiggle when we pet her and her tail wags faster than she can allow it to move!

thanks guys for all your help!

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / So, okay like an idiot...
« on: June 02, 2007, 11:19:01 pm »
I threw away the IAMS large puppy breed dogfood bag that shows the serving size amount on it...and Peyton keeps looking hungrier everytime she eats.  :-\ I am thinking that maybe since she is growing bigger, she should get more food. I thought I remembered seeing that age is more of an issue in serving size, but now I am thinking weight!  :P

If anyone has "IAMS Large Breed Puppy Food" (and still has the bag), can someone please tell me how much we should be feeding her????!!!!  :D She weighs (aprx.) 22-25 lbs. and she is now 14 weeks old.

THANKS!!! (I tried google-ing it and I came up with nothing!)  ;)

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / peyton trip to the vet!
« on: May 21, 2007, 08:32:52 pm »
So we get into the car yesterday to go to the vet. (our 3rd in the series of shots) and of course i have all the windows rolled down SOME for her to get fresh air and to get cooled off (i don't have a/c in my car) and i have mine rolled down all the way because i know not to jump out when i stick my head out. anyway...peyto n is in the backseat wondering where all this air is coming from so she is sniffing around and finally she gets it...it's mommy's window. she wraps her arms around my head rest (and giving me a headlock while she is at it!) and she sticks her head out my window while holding on to my chair! i did bring my camera but i couldn't take any pics of it. i would have cause a wreck!

we get to the vet and of course she happy piddles everywhere!! it's like someone had a squirtgun! she gets onto the scale and she is able to be still cuz she learned DOWN! yey! she is 20 lbs exactly once she was still!

we went in and got examened (spelled wrong) and got her shots. the doc said "i do believe i was mistaken at first, she is going to be a very large dog". he said "wow 9 lbs in 3 weeks, yes ma'am, a very large dog." i asked him how much is she gonna weigh then. he said more mastiff than rott so about 100 lbs. he said that the last time we were here she did not have her big paws yet. which was the truth. he said now that he sees her with those and sees how she is gaining weight, that he was wrong. hehe.

we talked about her neon mountain dew colored ooze that likes to hang about from her piddler. he said not to be concerned only because she is not concerned. once she starts paying attention...th at i will need to pay attention. that some female pups get it, some don't. she doesn't have a bladder infection! YEY! and...she does not have kennel cough. he thinks that her asofogus (like my spelling!!!) was probably bruised from the collar we had. he likes that we have her in a harness now.

after the vet, we stopped at starbucks. i got some ice water and she got some water too! i had broughten her into my starbucks (work) a couple of times and i guess people have been talking about her to other stores! how cute is that?! and so when i said i needed a tall water no ice for my puppy...the barista behind the counter said..."that isn't peyton by chance is it" i am all...uh...yes ...she said "oh brandon told me all about her, bring her in we wanna see!" well brandon was my old assistant manager (he now has his own store and left the one i am at) and he actually never met peyton, so someone must have been talking about peyton and told him and then he told other peoples! so yeah...peyton is now a little celebrity! so i took her in and met "new friends". and on the way home from there we stopped by a gas station (3.38 here in IND) and she saw some bikers people she wanted badly to meet! so we got out and met them. she really liked this one guy...until he got on his harley and started it! she peed herself. poor pey-t-pie!

oh, she doesn't cry in the car anymore. i think she realized there is so much stuff to look at and so many smells to smell! she now stands on my arm rest and looks out...and of course she has her cup of water right below it when she gets thirsty! i need to take some pics of her!!!

this whole thing cracks me up! sorry my story was so long. i am bored and since peyton already knows what happened yesterday there is no reason to tell her again!

while i was at work today, my boyfriend got to play with peyton all day (and pick up around the house) and while he was playing and working, he taught pey-t-pie to lay down. i guess he wanted her to learn only to jump up when she was asked to or it was okay to, he would call her to jump up and the other times he would say down. she somehow caught on to lay down when down. she started sitting and then sliding on our kitchen floor. so when i came home he told me what she had learned and so a couple of times tonight i said "down" and she actually did it! YEY PEYTON!!! he said that it only took about 10 mins to learn it. so yey!!!
